Croquet at Gemilston
The Country Curling Club summer croquet was once more hosted at Gemilston and we enjoyed
uninterrupted sunshine which was very welcome.
Fiona Ross & Kirsty Craig organised the supply of food for the day with dishes prepared by many of our members. A thank you to all who contributed.
Through Kirkmichael village hall and Majestic, Pat and Caroline organised the tables, chairs and refreshments for the day.
Thirty of our members arrived in character, opera being the theme for the day, and twenty two entered the keen competition for prizes.
Success in the initial pairings created a high road for the winners and a low road for those who came second.
For the first time the rules committee had to consider the penalty for hitting balls into the water hazard. The removal of shoes, socks and trousers to enter the pond and retrieve the ball was considered most appropriate.
The finals therefore were contested by Alison & Joe v Simon & Jayne in the high road with Jim & Jenny v Lorna & Steph in the low road match.
Alison & Joe and Jim & Jenny were the winners receiving bottles of wine for their efforts.
Prizes for Best Dressed were won by Jayne Murdoch for her Pirates of Penzance costume and Ronnie Alexander who had obviously had a tough night at the opera and not been home!
James Murdoch, (bird catcher from Magic Flute) drew the afternoon to a close and once again we were indebted to Pat & Caroline for hosting the event.
